Who and Why?
PHP was created by Danish-Canadian programmer Rasmus Lerdorf in 1993, and was released in 1995. It was originally created to maintain his personal website.
PHP Environment
PHP is a primarily a server-side scripting language. PHP can be used on all major operating systems including linux and many linux variants, as well as Windows, and macOS. PHP also has support for most web servers today including Apache, IIs, and others.
Usage of PHP on the internet
According to kinsta.com 79.2% of all websites use PHP to some degree. This makes it one of the most popular languages in use.
